Why ESG Matters for India

As India deepens its integration with global markets and capital systems, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations have become central to business credibility, competitiveness, and long-term value creation. Indian organisations are increasingly expected to align with global ESG standards while also responding to domestic regulatory frameworks such as the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR). Effective ESG adoption helps organisations manage environmental and social risks, strengthen governance, and build resilience in the face of climate change, workforce transitions, and evolving regulatory expectations. Beyond compliance, ESG enables access to global value chains and sustainable finance, enhances investor confidence, and improves operational efficiency through better resource management and risk oversight. For India—where rapid growth, resource constraints, and social inclusion challenges coexist—ESG provides a structured pathway for businesses to pursue responsible, transparent, and sustainable growth while contributing meaningfully to national and global development goals.
